Construction Begins on Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens

The groundbreaking ceremony for the luxurious casino-resort located in the heart of the Athens Rivera was recently held by the new developer Hard Rock International in cooperation with GEK TERNA Group. The ceremony featured a memorable shovel celebration at the Hellinikon Airport, followed by a ceremony at the Hellinikon Experience Center attended by GEK TERNA Group executives, Hard Rock International executives, political dignitaries, leaders of the local community, and Greek government officials.

The casino-resort, known as the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens, will be the first integrated resort (IR) of its kind in continental Europe. It is expected to open its doors to the public in 2027 and will play a key role in boosting the economy of tourism and entertainment in Athens. The resort will offer a one-of-a-kind destination for its guests, featuring a luxury hotel, convention and meeting space, a world-class gaming floor, renowned dining and beverage options, an entertainment venue, a luxury retail promenade, and a top-tier Rock Spa® and Pool Complex.

The gaming floor will include 1,500 gaming machines and 180 tables, as well as a tower with 15 dining options and 1,100 guest rooms. Additionally, the resort will feature the Hard Rock Live theater, accommodating 3,000 guests, and the Rock® Spa and Body Rock Fitness facilities.

Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International, expressed gratitude to the political leaders, partners at Gek Terna, and the people of Athens for their support of the project.

The construction project is valued at €1.5 billion and is expected to offer 3,000 permanent and 3,000 construction jobs, contributing positively to the economy of Athens and Greece. The developers are motivated by the unique Mediterranean landscape and the rich culture of Athens, aiming to increase Hard Rock’s presence in Europe and support the redevelopment of Hellinikon Airport to boost Athens and Greece’s tourism industry.

George Peristeris, Chairman and CEO of GEK TERNA Group, emphasized the value of the investment, stating that the Integrated Resort Complex in Hellinikon is not just a promise, vision, or plan, but a project already under construction, demonstrating their commitment. He highlighted the project’s potential to become an international reference point for Greece’s tourism product, providing employment opportunities and significant revenues to the national budget.
